This crate is make super sturdy to be utilized turned over as a stepping riser. Solid cherry wood and thicker almost .75" thick. Cherry wood is a beautiful, living wood that darkens with light exposure, transforming into a rich reddish brown over time. If you don't need a riser, well it is a very functional crate the chunky character. We have had several requests for stepping blocks / risers to allow smaller children to step up on. This need began when younger/smaller children were given one of our play kitchens and were too small to reach the counters. Thus, making this was a way to add future use.
