Safe Toys and the Law
In August 2008, the U.S. Congress passed the Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which limits the amount of lead, phthalates, and other chemicals in children’s products. Additionally, the CPSIA has made compliance of ASTM standards mandatory, as well as manufacturing identification and tracking labels/tags.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is in charge of enforcing these regulations, and their policies concerning what (products), how (requirements), and when (deadlines) have been in a frequent state of revision as they try to best interpret the intentions of the law and balance the concerns of various and vast children’s product industries.
How do we ensure safe toys?
Camden Rose wants to assure our customers that all of our children’s products as of August 2009, meet, and in most case exceed, these standards. We have tested samples of each item we produce for lead content as well as a numerous other harmful chemicals. As we expected, each product easily passed with levels of lead content far lower or non-existent than the minimum allowed. If requested we can provide the detailed test results of all of our children’s products in our catalog.
No phthalates, thank you
Additionally, we can confidently report that NONE of our children’s products contain any phthalates, namely PVC (found in soft plastic or vinyl). In sum, we are confident that all of our products for both children and adults, not meet current CPSIA requirements but will also stand up to any future tightening of those requirements.
We believe the CPSIA law will help improve children’s safety as well as grow the natural children’s products industry. It is important that all of us work toward both protecting the health and safety of all people and improving the integrity of the natural products industry. We are proud to support that effort by providing safe toys for infants, toddlers, and older children that will bring joy to your family without compromising your health.
