Our Story
Goal
We seek to create and sell honest children’s items with quality materials and craftsmanship. We choose to market responsibly, enable the customer to work with a person not a business, support our community both financially and physically, replace what we remove from the environment, and promote the love of learning and living.
Materials
Our toys are constructed to last through multiple generations and the materials that make up the toys are gathered through organized sustainability programs. We use the highest quality materials, all certified non-toxic. Toys made from natural materials such as wood, silk, wool or beeswax have a warm and honest quality that does not give a false impression of weight, mass or touch. It is our responsibility to provide an environment that tells the story of our world honestly and at the same time protects that world.
Production
Each item that we sell is meticulously constructed by craftspeople that specialize in their art. Our items are not mass-produced, rather they are created one-by-one, the old-fashioned way. Each item that we offer has been child tested and approved for safety, functionality and form.
Unless noted, ALL items offered by Camden Rose are made in the United States. This is also a choice in the protection of our future. By utilizing skilled American craftsmanship we assist in the renaissance of great American manufacturing. Items not created in the US are crafted by certifiable sources such as a fair trade co-op or worker-owned facilities.
Design
The appeal of organic design is only partially visual; the true experience is primarily tactile. True organic design is always in touch with its surroundings. Our studio is situated in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just a few miles from the Huron River. Some forms typical to this life-sphere are:
the lively currents of the water,
the rhythmical forms of the sand on the beach,
the fluid lines of a waving river,
and, the dense comfort of the tree canopy.
Starting with the foundational design of the grown-up world and then miniaturizing to the scale of a child’s world, our items assist in the creativity of the imaginations – a place where free-thinkers are born.
Company
Camden Rose is a collective voice of designers, artists, teachers, musicians, craftspeople, and parents, who choose to create a better future for our children. We began in 2003 following the success of the Cherry Rattle (formerly Rudy’s Rattle). After establishing ourselves as a respected design and manufacturing firm of imagination-based toys, we have grown to include items for schools and child-centered organizations. During this time of growth, subsidiaries such as Three BEEautiful Bees and Ellodi sprouted from the Camden Rose tree.
Although we are growing in the variety of items and production quantities, we will still retain our personal touch. When you order from Camden Rose you are ordering from a family business, and when you call, you will more than likely be speaking with one of the owners.
